Still Happy Garden

As I mentioned in the last post, it's been getting down to 20 degrees at night... yes even in Arizona! We decided to try a winter garden this year.... and so far so good, even in these temperatures. The gourds (the plants not the gourds themselves) and our basil bit the big one in the first freeze. Our survivors are: collards, kale, lettuce, radishes, beets, green onions, cilantro, parsley, oregano, sage, and still many baby plants including carrots, bok choy, more beets and more radishes. I'm very excited about this garden experiment thus far and am learning that it success is dependent on the types of vegetables one plants. If ya plant in cold weather, plant the plants that will grow in cold weather. We are looking forward to having some of our homegrown greens for Thanksgiving, and I must say I'm thankful for that!

The pics are of some of our greens and these were taken after surviving below freezing temperatures. I'm just proud as punch!!
