Happy Thanksgiving!!

It's official! The neighborhood Thanksgiving gathering is on for early afternoon. Looking forward to happy neighbor fellowship and good food.

I temporarily reminisce... I'm noticing now it's 6:40 am. I remember back to early childhood where by now an 18 pound turkey would have been in the oven almost two hours by now. Before that, a stuffing will have been made from scratch, filling up a metal bowl that I could not get my arms around. The stuffing filled the cavity of the bird and with the rest in a casserole dish. Strips of bacon were set across the breast portion of the turkey for basting and flavor. As they cooked, the aromas were intoxicating, even to an eight year old. I know we had other items on the menu, but now almost four decades later, those were the most memorable. But that was a long time ago.

Nowadays, it's nice to have Thanksgiving dinner a bit simpler, especially in a trailer kitchen. Smaller fare is just as nice. A game hen, or a chicken in the oven gives almost the same wonderful aromas, with instant stuffing on the stove, and green beans from those microwave pouches. Dinner in two hours max instead of twelve.

This morning I'm thankful for the shooting stars I saw this morning, running the propane furnace for some really nice heat... the critters liked it too I gather since they were huddled around the furnace vent. Then there's the nice neighbor who is providing cooking for most of the dinner spread this year. Bless her and those food faeries that provided the food.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
